Project Overview:

TITLE: Design-Build Backup Generator System
DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT:
Through a design-build contract, FSG provided a Federal intelligence agency two 1500 kW 277/480 volt emergency diesel generators and all necessary equipment to support power requirements for a St Louis, Missouri campus in the event of an extended power failure.

The existing facility required extensive changes to the exterior of the building to incorporate the generators. In addition, sound attenuation was utilized to limit the migration of sound from the generator room.

Project Highlights:

  • Expedited design of long-lead items to allow for timely purchase and delivery.
  • Designed system to integrate seamlessly with existing switchgear.
  • Replaced existing curtain wall with powered
louver system for intake and exhaust air.
  • Designed & installed a vibration isolation system to minimize structural vibrations. This was critical due to the planned future use of the facility.
  • Utilized existing diesel storage tank and piping to supply the fuel for the generator.
  • Completed the entire project (design through turnover) in six months
    – two months ahead of schedule.

Project Overview:

Project Highlights:

  • Condition Assessments for prospective sitesDeveloped cost estimates based on “occupancy ready” space.
  • Gathered customer requirements for incorporation into bridging documents
  • Developed multiple space plans for review with customersfacilities construction, repair, & renovation work
  • Developed communications infrastructure based on customer unique requirements, allowing for future growth and changes in technology.
  • Developed complete bridging documents – specifications and drawings
  • Wrote project specific General Conditions – included clauses unique to customer requirements
  • Proposed and evaluated changes to base design
  • Select and execute government directed design enhancements
  • Developed government estimates
  • Evaluated cost and technical merit of contractor proposals
  • Developed facility equipment layout for electro/mechanical equipment
  • Developed facility telecom equipment layout
  • Prepared and presented project status at
    monthly reviews
  • Conduct bi-weekly meetings with contractor and subcontractors
